Detail Solar was founded in part to help local Upstate residents take advantage of solar energy to power their properties. This has proved to a be a worthwhile cause in its own right, as we’ve helped countless people take advantage of the cost savings of solar while also helping to protect our planet.

As American’s, we are blessed. When we travel to other countries, we can clearly see how blessed we are to live in the United States of America.

We’ve heard the story of the Good Samaritan in the Bible (Luke 10:30-37). We know that when the Good Samaritan helped, it cost him something. He paid for the lodging of the beaten Jewish traveler who was left on the side of the road to die. For us to be so incredibly blessed in this country, and to keep it all for ourselves is just not neighborly. Mark 12:31 says it all, “thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is non other commandment greater than these.”

We’ve been blessed, and we are called to help others who are not so fortunate. For us at Detail Solar, we feel that living with integrity calls us to reach out and help in places that are not as fortunate. We do that in a very a practical way by funding the building of an 20,000 square foot school, plus covering all the teacher salaries in the small island of YAP in Micronesia.

In January of 2014, myself (founder Paul Zimmer Sr.) and my wife and kids were serving as missionaries in the small island of YAP in Micronesia. We noticed that a lot of kids were dropping out of school. The reasons were plentiful, but we saw that these kids, who were outcasts, disabled, learning disabled, and had a very high suicide rate needed a place of hope. We partnered with the Bob Jones Bible Conference offering , and raised enough money to start building a school to give hope to the kids that nobody else was inclined to help. Faith Christian Academy was founded, and the rest, as they say, is history.

We take the resources from Detail Solar to rescue kids in Yap. Faith Christian Academy continues to operate because people in the Upstate of South Carolina and Western North Carolina choose us when they want to decrease their power bill or lessen their carbon footprint. We’re here for the long run, because what we do here allows us to continue to help kids in Yap find hope.

Powering a Small Island

If we can power a small island, we can power your home.

The first power on multiple islands in Micronesia is power that we installed. In 2008 the Micronesia government got some money from the European Development Fund (EDF) to set up power in some of their outermost islands for schools and clinics. These islands had no power grid, so many of them had never had power. We were able to draw up an assessment plan for what needed to be done, and they submitted it to the US, and the USA eventually funded the project. In 2010, the EDF asked me to come back and do the work. I installed either solar upgrades to the ones that did have some solar, or brand new solar for the first time, to power the islands, on 18 islands of outer Micronesia. Those islands had ship-only access. So we went out on a ship. We did the work for free, but needed workers to help us, so they paid the workers to help us. It was such a blessing to get to see some of those islands get power for the first time.
